Los vegetales no solo se lavan y cortan, sino que frecuentemente se mezclan para crear ensaladas listas para consumir, o se empacan como conjuntos de ingredientes para recetas. Las bandas que se utilizan para este proceso deben manejar materiales crudos de diferentes formas, contenido de químicos, rigidez y tasa de deterioro. Los elevadores de esta fábrica eran difíciles de limpiar. Los tacos empujadores se desprendían, reduciendo el rendimiento y exponiendo el tejido de los bordes la banda y el interior de los tacos, que absorbía jugos de los vegetales y agua.
